The new year begins with "Bloody Murder" at CVLT - 1/7/11
CHAGRIN FALLS, OH - Chagrin Valley Little Theatre starts 2011 with Ed Sala's Bloody Murder, a twisted, fourth-wall-breaking, whodunit/spoof that turns the murder-mystery genre on its head. The play will be on CVLT's main stage Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 PM, January 14 - February 5.
The wealthy Lady Somerset (Linda Ryan) has assembled an unlikely group of guests for a weekend at her lavish countryside estate. The attendees represent the usual murder-mystery suspects; we meet a far-too innocent ingenue (Tari Lyn Bergoine), an enigmatic and well-preserved Countess, a self-glorifying Major (Rollin DeVere), the Lady's ne'er-do-well nephew (Eric Oswald), an alcoholic fading actor (Steve Ryan) and, of course, the obligatory maid (Lisa Tarr).
As is often the case with these scenarios, one of the characters meets a mysterious and violent end. But Lady Somerset takes an unusual turn by refusing to call the authorities, insisting that she and her guests are simply characters in a mystery story who must ignore the death and join her in revolt against the "perfectly dreadful author". The players and their playwright enter into a wild battle of wills that delivers plenty of laughter and a surprising end!
Bloody Murder is directed by Douglas Farren, and made its world premiere at Akron's Weathervane Playhouse in January, 2009.
Bloody Murder Tickets are $16 regular, $12 for students and seniors, and are available at www.CVLT.org, or by phone at 440-247-8955, Monday through Saturday from 1-6 PM.
