CVLT serves a dark comedy confection for Christmas with "The Eight" - 11/10/08
CHAGRIN FALLS, OH - You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen... or do you? Rudolph is in a padded stall, Santa is on a bender, and the reindeer are talking to anyone who will listen in The Eight: Reindeer Monoologues, a hard-hitting, chocolatey-dark holiday confection opening later this month at Chagrin Valley Little Theatre's River Street Playhouse. This hysterically tart alternative to the usual sugar-coated holiday fare sees scandal erupt at the North Pole when one of Santa’s eight tiny reindeer accuses him of decidely un-Christmas-like behavior. As the media descends, the other members of the elite sleigh team share their articulate and sometimes sordid confessions, spinning a tale of corruption that implicates everyone from the littlest elf to Saint Nick himself. If your holiday entertainment tastes are a little less 'peppermint stick' and a little more 'sour ball', The Eight is the perfect gift to your funnybone and a refreshing 'gin and tonic' for those who are already "holidayed-out"!
The Eight stars Adam Young (Dasher), Jerry Schaber (Donner), David Malinowski (Hollywood), Mary Britta Shirring (Blitzen), Kaitlyn Whitebread (Vixen), Erin Scerbak (Comet), Brenda Redmond (Dancer), and Tim Coles (Cupid) under the direction of Yvonne E. Pilarczyk. Each member of Santa's team speaks his or her mind to the audience in a series of monologues that the Boston Herald called "gut-bustlingly funny and completely outrageous". The River Street Playhouse generally offers edgy or new material that differs from the more 'general audience' fare on the main stage and The Eight is definitely such a show - due to its mature language and themes, we recommend leaving the fawns at home! Complimentary wine will be available before each performance.
The Eight: Reindeer Monologues runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, November 28 through December 13 at the River Street Playhouse, a smaller venue at 56 River Street adjacent to CVLT's main building in historic downtown Chagrin Falls. All tickets are $8 general seating.
For more 'family oriented' holiday cheer, don't miss Chagrin Valley Little Theatre's The Wizard of Oz, Friday and Saturday nights at 8 PM from November 21 to December 19, with 2 PM matinee performances on November 30 and December 7. Tickets are $16 for regular admission, and $12 for students and seniors. The holiday fun at CVLT continues with the annual childrens' Holiday Show and Gingerbread Tea on December 13 and 14 ($6/$8) and the Christmas music concert on December 21.
Tickets for all CVLT shows and events can be purchased online 24 hours a day at www.CVLT.org, or by calling the Box Office at 440-247-8955 between 1 and 6 PM, Monday through Saturday.
