"Grease" brings 1959 back to Chagrin Falls this summer - 7/15/09

CHAGRIN FALLS, OH - Your 'Summer Nights' simply aren't complete without a visit to the familiar halls of Rydell High School in the Jim Jacobs/Warren Casey musical Grease! Songs like 'Greased Lightning', 'Beauty School Dropout', 'We Go Together' and of course 'Summer Nights' have made this 50s-era rock 'n' roll musical an American cultural icon. When Grease ended its initial New York run in 1980, it was the longest running show in Broadway history, and remains the 12th-longest running to this day. The 1978 feature film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John only boosted the popularity of the show, as did the 2007 revival and associated reality TV show, "You're The One That I Want!" With that kind of track record, it's no surprise that Grease has become a staple of American community theater.

Chagrin Valley Little Theatre will conclude its 79th consecutive season with Grease, which opens on July 24th and runs through August 21st. This production of Grease will be CVLT's fourth (it played in 1981, 1987, and 2000), and has been directed and choreographed by Pamela LaForce, with music conducted by David Markle. The malt-shop love story centers on 'good girl' Sandy Dumbrowski (Katelyn Vogias) and 'greaser' Danny Zuko (Steven R. Tiderman) whose summer romance turns complicated when Sandy's father gets a new job and she ends up at Danny's high school for her senior year. While Danny tries to keep his 'too cool for love' attitude in front of his 'Burger Palace Boys', Kenickie (Jon Gellot), Roger (Brandon Hood), Sonny (Nicholas Toney) and Doody (Scott Zolkowski), Sandy learns the ropes of being a 'tough chick' from the Pink Ladies, Rizzo (Greta Rothman), Frenchy (Atlie Gilbert), Marty (Alex LaForce-Marzullo) and Jan (Paige Boyer). Grease's rockin' take on the tangled wilderness of teenage romance in the time of muscle cars and drive-in movies is tailor-made for a nostalgic summer night in historic Chagrin Falls.

Grease is on stage at Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, 40 River Street in Chagrin Falls, OH from July 24 to August 21, 2009. Performances are Friday and Saturday nights at 8 PM, and Sundays August 2, 9 and 16 at 2 PM. Tickets are $16 or $12 for students and seniors and can be purchased online 24 hours a day at www.CVLT.org, or by calling the Box Office at 440-247-8955 between 1 and 6 PM, Monday through Saturday.
