Chagrin's 'Almost, Maine' delivers quirky, magical romance - 4/1/09
CHAGRIN FALLS, OH - Spring is in the air here in Cleveland, but in the mythical town of Almost, Maine, the residents are still fighting the cold. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend – almost – in this delightful midwinter nights’ dream which opens at Chagrin Valley Little Theatre's River Street Playhouse on April 17th.
Almost, Maine was the first of two plays written by John Cariani, best known as CSU Tech 'Julian Beck' on the television show Law & Order. It opened off Broadway in 2006. CVLT's production, under the direction of David Malinowksi, treats audiences to nine quirky, romantic vignettes exploring the impact of love on our lives. All 19 characters in these pieces are played by four actors - Chuck Matthews, Maggie Leach, Natalie Dolezal and Jon Gellott. Almost, Maine uses a "magical realism" style, where everything is realistic except for the one magical moment which seems to fit in seamlessly. The result is an enchanting and whimsical evening that will help take that last chill Winter off of your heart on your way into Spring!
Almost, Maine runs Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 PM from April 17 through May 2. The River Street Playhouse is located at 56 River Street, adjacent to the main CVLT building. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased online 24 hours a day at www.CVLT.org, or by calling the Box Office at 440-247-8955 between 1 and 6 PM, Monday through Saturday.
Chagrin Valley Little Theatre is generously funded by Cuyahoga County residents through Cuyahoga Arts and Culture and is supported by the Ohio Arts Council.
