Chagrin Valley Little Theatre gets "The Seven Year Itch" - 5/28 /08
CHAGRIN FALLS, OH - When George Axelrod's 1952 Broadway play The Seven Year Itch hit the big screen in 1955, it created one of the most iconic images of the 20th Century - Marilyn Monroe's white dress blowing up in the gust of wind from a subway train below the grate she stood on. "Isn't it delicious?" she asked coyly. On June 6th, Chagrin Valley Little Theatre will premiere its own "delicious" production of Axelrod's romantic comedy (minus Marilyn, of course). Audiences are bound to laugh at this classic story of 'man versus himself', which they'll find to be somewhat edgier than the film version and every bit as fresh and funny as when it was new.
Under the experienced direction of Barbara L. Rhoades, the cast invites you into the mind of Richard Sherman (portrayed by Craig Peck), a young publishing executive living in New York with his wife Helen (Chris White) and their child. When the summer heat gets to be too much, he packs the rest of the family off to Maine so that he can focus on the book he's preparing to publish - a pop-psychology paperback about 'the seven-year itch', which is the urge that married men get to stray from monogamy after seven years of marriage. Left alone with his book, Richard meets the nameless model (Tara Holman) who is subletting the apartment above his for the summer and quickly becomes tangled in his own overactive imagination. Richard's conscience (portrayed by Jerry Schaber) battles with his fantasies of being unfaithful to his wife, as well as paranoid thoughts of his wife cheating on him with their neighbor Tom (Patrick Petipas). Also appearing are W. C. Meyer as psychologist Dr. Brubaker, along with Elaine Sonnie, Christine Bohn and Paula Santa as a variety of women that Richard also imagines to be interested in him.
The Seven Year Itch runs Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 PM from June 6th through June 28th. Tickets are $14 for regular admission, or $10 for students and seniors. A special "Girls' Night Out!" event will be held at 6 PM on June 13th.
