Something "Fuddy" is going on at CVLT - 10/1/07
CHAGRIN FALLS, OH - Each day, Claire wakes up and greets her husband, Richard in a seemingly normal way. However, nothing (and we mean nothing) is as it seems in the bizarre world of David Lindsay-Abaire's Fuddy Meers, the "screwball comedy meets psychological thriller" opening October 12th at Chagrin Valley Little Theatre's River Street Playhouse.
Audiences soon learn that Claire has a form of "psychogenic amnesia" that erases her memory every night when she goes to sleep, and so Richard must explain her life to her each day. On the day in which the play takes place, however, Claire has some serious questions to ask him. Her mysterious existence kicks into high gear when a strange man in a ski mask kidnaps her, and Richard must fight to get her back. Jumping into the mix are Kenny, Claire's problematic son, and Gertie, her stroke-victim mother whose speech impediment yields the play's unusual title (a mispronunciation of 'funny mirrors'). Also making their presence known are Millet, an ex-convict with his foul-mouthed puppet, and Heidi, an intense woman who just might be a cop. This wild ride balances grave reality and joyous lunacy, with dark irony and outsider characters in search of clarity.
Fuddy Meers takes its goofy, dysfunctional spin under the keen direction of Yvonne E. Pilarczyk, with Lisa Tarr and Adam Young in the leading roles. Performances are at 8 PM on Friday and Saturday evenings, October 12 - October 27. The show is staged at CVLT's River Street Playhouse, a smaller venue devoted to edgier plays and local playwrights that sits adjacent to the main theater building at 56 River Street. All tickets are $8 and can be purchased online at www.CVLT.org or by calling 440-247-8955. Box Office hours for phone purchases are Monday through Saturday between 1 and 6 PM. Dinner packages with local restuarants and group rates for 10 or more available. See CVLT.org for details. Fuddy Meers is not recommended for children due to mature language.
