MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS

Ron Hutchinson's play, based on historical events, centers on legendary producer David O. Selznick's frantic efforts to save "Gone With The Wind" from its originally awful script and clueless director by bringing in Victor Fleming and Ben Hecht to direct and re-write it mid-shoot. This farce also touches on the questions of race and the fragile position of Jewish executives in classic Hollywood.

It explores what happens when a generation raised on children's television encounters the harsh realities of adult life, including songs like "What Do You Do with a B.A. in English?", "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist," and "It Sucks to Be Me."

Lee Blessing's touching and complex drama, winner of the L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award, studies the dynamics between three generations of women in one family. The title, a synonym for "charitable," is a reference to the granddaughter's prowess in the spelling bees that figure into the story. Performed at CVLT's intimate River Street Playhouse.
