Set in the time of the Spanish Inquisition, La Mancha is the story of a knight who embarks on a romantic and noble journey to win the heart of a good woman and to capture “The Impossible Dream.” Based on Miguel de Cervantes’ classic book “Don Quixote,” “Man of La Mancha” has been deemed as one of the all-time great successes of American stage. Dale Wasserman wrote the stage play script and was quickly persuaded by his colleagues to rewrite it as a musical. Mitch Leigh and Joe Darion provided the music and lyrics, and soon the show made a nearly six-year Broadway run. The musical received five Tony Awards with one each to the composer, lyricist, director and Richard Kiley, who played the leading role.
