About the Play

It is possible for us all to become corrupted. In fact, it's an inevitable part of the human condition.

Directed by Michael Rogan

A Monty Pythonesque comedy that gives new meaning to the old Biblical buzzsaw, "robbing Peter to pay Paul!"

Welcome to Priseaux, France, c. 1250 A.D.  The river flooded again last week.  The chandler’s shop burned to the ground.  Nobody’s heard of the wheelbarrow yet.  And Saint Foy, the patron saint of the local monastery, hasn’t worked a miracle in thirteen years.  In other words, the Dark Ages still seem pretty dark!

All eyes turn to the pope, whose promised visit will surely encourage other pilgrims to make the trek and restore the abbey to its former glory.  That is, until a rival church claims to possess the relics of Saint Foy – and their bones are working miracles!

All seems lost, until a larcenous, one-eyed minstrel appears and teaches the locals a few imaginative tricks to right their financial ship.  In the process, the monks learn a little something about redemption.

A violist-turned-playwright, Michael Hollinger has authored several musicals and plays for both adult and young audiences, including Opus (2006), Red Herring (2000) and A Wonderful Noise (2005).  Hollinger is the recipient of numerous new playwriting awards, including The Barrymore Award (2-time recipient), the Frederick Loewe Award, and the American Theatre Crtitics Association New Play Citation.

“Everything fits snugly in this funny, endearing comedy.... A piece of remarkably dexterous craftsmanship.” – Philadelphia Inquirer.
“A lightning fast farce, rich in both verbal and physical humor.” – American Theatre
