About the Concert
In honor of the late Arthur C. Clarke...
The Chagrin Light Orchestra (Chagrin Light) announces that it will honor Arthur C. Clarke, 20th century visionary, at its April 5 concert. Clarke, who died last Wednesday, was known for his work in scientific discovery and science fiction. Perhaps best known for penning 2001: A Space Odyssey, Clarke also set out the principles of satellite communication and his discovery—from which modern-day technologies were based, including: cell phones, global navigation systems, spacecraft and launch systems, and direct television—made a global impact on the lives of present and future generations.
Star Light: A Space Odyssey will be performed on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 8 p.m, at the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, and in Clarke’s honor. The concert will feature popular science fiction scores including: Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back; E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial; a Star Trek medley; and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, as well as classical works including Holst (The Planets) Mars and Strauss' Fanfare from Also Sprach Zarathustra, made famous in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.
“Chagrin Light is honored to dedicate its concert to Arthur Clarke, a great futurist and author. We hope to create a celebration of space and science fiction that is befitting of Clarke’s contributions to our society—and, hopefully, inspires future musicians, scientists, and authors,” notes Stephen Eva, Musical Director of Chagrin Light.
Adding to the festivities will be costumed “Trekkers” from the USS Challenger Chapter of the International Federation of Trekkers, an organization founded in Cleveland and committed to celebrating the Star Trek mythos and community service.
To ensure that children can learn about Clarke’s contributions to our society and enjoy in the live musical experience, Chagrin Light is offering youth/student concert tickets for $15. Adult tickets for the concert only are $25. A patron reception, beginning at 7 p.m., includes spirits and appetizers courtesy of Gamekeeper’s Taverne, signature cosmopolitan cocktails featured in the Star Trek franchise, and concert ticket, and is available for $50.
